Kyle Weinand and Chris Williams: Belgian Ale – Witbier with orange zest and coriander
How long have you been home brewing?
Chris started brewing in May of 2015, the partnership started about a month later. I have been involved with home brewing on and off for about 12 years. Chris and I joined up to enter Home brew competitions and enjoy quality made beers together.
What is your favorite Ballast Point beer?
Piper Down was my first. I was very excited to try anything from BP and found this bomber at a local grocery store. Dorado and Sour Wench are my favorite two. As for Chris, Big Eye is a classic California IPA, but Grapefruit Sculpin has that bitter citrus flavors that adds another layer of complexity to the beer.
What was the inspiration for your winning regional beer?
It was a combination of a spicy high gravity witbier and a wheat organge beer. We peeled some oranges for the family and when the kids didn’t want to eat them, into the recipe they went.
